This print is very different from my usual style. It was for an exhibition entitled Fabled, in response to a story by Rudyard Kipling about a spider crab who causes the sea to ebb and flow in tides. Living close to the sea, and loving poking about in rock pools, the story really appealed to me.
I wanted to keep the print simple, so only used one colour, thinning the ink with extender and printing very thin layers on top of each other to create the effect of the tide flowing in and out, and looking through water.
I printed a very small limited edition of just 6 prints. As they are each made by hand, there will inevitably be very slight variations from print to print, especially in the texture on the crab's shell, which I printed as monoprint layers, manipulating the ink to resemble splotches and bumps.
Each print is named, numbered and signed by myself. They are 20x20cm on A3 Kent paper. The prints are sold unmounted and unframed.
