I spent a wonderful morning in South Shields last autumn, mooching along the river, the beaches and the harbour walls, admiring all the public art and spotting wildlife. It was a crisp, cold and really bright day and the colour of the Herd Groyne lighthouse really popped against the sky - I knew it could make a wonderful print. I chose to include the 2 fishermen who were fishing off the pier as they perfectly encapsulate for me the daily life that goes on around these nautical structures and how ingrained they become in our lives, our routines and our knowledge of place.
This is a multiblock linocut print, I used 2 blocks, one for the sky and sea and one for the sand, rocks and lighthouse. I used 10 different colours and printed a limited edition of just 15 prints.
They are sold unframed, but as they are A4 in size, they are easy to frame yourself in an A4 frame of your choice.
They are printed on beautifully smooth acid-free Kent 190 gsm A4 paper. Each print is named, numbered and signed by myself.
