This print tells the story of a walk I took along a beach, watching the weather unfolding before me. The clouds built up and blew past overhead and eventually rain broke through out at sea. I was struck by how the light and the landscape changed from minute to minute, never staying the same. The number in the title marks the grid reference at the start of my walk.

The print is part of a series I'm working on entitled Off Grid, where I start from a point on a map (which could be random or deliberately selected, either by myself or someone else), and set off on foot, looking, listening and recording what I see, hear, think and feel. A print is subsequently made which will remind me of the time I spent in that landscape on that particular day. It's a more personal, reflective way of working and rather than recording a specific view, the aim is to tell a story of a particular day and how I felt, what I saw, what struck me - it could be a study of the weather (as in this case), something small which caught my eye, patterns made in nature, or a view from many angles. I spend a lot of time walking, and often what I remember most is not the main point of the walk. For example, there's a moorland walk I've done dozens of times. Once, I saw loads of very fat hairy black and orange caterpillars along the path, something I've not seen since. Another time I did the same walk on a crisp winter's day, and what I remember is the amazing concentric circle patterns of ice on every puddle. I'm looking forward to building up the collection of Off Grid prints. If there's somewhere special you'd like me to explore in the northeast of England, why not send me the grid reference and see what happens next ...

The print is approximately 31x20cm in size, on A3 paper, in a limited edition of just 5. Each print is very slightly different - I've used very thin layers of ink and have hand printed extra texture on each one, which varies from print to print. The prints are sold unframed, and are printed on beautifully smooth acid-free Kent paper. Each print is named, numbered and signed by myself.

Delivery to all UK addresses is free. Prints are sold unmounted and are sent using Royal Mail, first class delivery. For packages needed urgently, or being sent abroad, please contact me directly before placing your order for postage options.
