Coquet Trees

Sometimes a perfectly ordinary view can take your breath away. This happened to me in the summer of 2024 when I was working at a market near Acklington in Northumberland. The view from the barn where I had my stall looked across a field towards a row of trees. We had every type of weather that day, and the sky has changed every time I looked. I knew that the view would make a great print.

In order to achieve the ephemeral effect of the wind, I kept the pressure light when printing the clouds. This meant that the ink coverage wasn't completely uniform and was slightly different on each print. Skies often look heavy in linocut prints and I wanted to achieve a lightness I hadn't managed to achieve before. The foreground was built up with several layers of extremely finely cut grass. Your eye is inevitably drawn towards the tree line, and your mind towards what might be happening in the shadows there. I hope that when you look at this print, you can feel a breeze on your face and can recognise a typical British countryside scene.

This is a reduction linocut print. I used a single lino block and printed 11 layers to achieve the final print. This is a very limited edition of just 12 prints.

The print is approximately 31x19cm in size, on A3 paper. The prints are sold unframed, and are printed on beautifully smooth acid-free Kent 190 gsm A3 paper. Each print is named, numbered and signed by myself.

Delivery to all UK addresses is free. Prints are sold unmounted and are packaged in sturdy cardboard tubes. Cards and prints are sent using Royal Mail, first class delivery. For packages needed urgently, or being sent abroad, please contact me directly before placing your order for postage options.
Orders will be processed within 5 days of receipt, although I do aim to dispatch as quickly as possible.
