This is an original linocut print of little plants and grasses I found growing on the Links in Whitley Bay in North Tyneside, on the coast of North East England. These little plants are usually overlooked as people look out at the wider view out to sea (and are brutally mowed by the council), but they are specially adapted to their environment and are each so different in their leaf shapes and patterns, so I wanted to celebrate them in a print. I cut 3 separate linos of 3 different plants and printed in them in yellow, grey and navy blue, in a limited edition of just 8. I have been playing around with a more abstract and geometric approach to nature. It's been fun simplifying things a bit more and being bold with shape and form. I made a pair of these prints in different colour ways - depicted together in one of the images.
Each original print is named, numbered and signed, and measures 7x6".
As they are each made by hand, there will inevitably be slight variations from print to print.
The prints are printed on beautifully smooth acid-free Kent 190 gsm A4 paper. For the photographs, I have used a 16x12” frame.
